The goal of fiction is to entertain. Additionally, it can spark critical thinking and discussions on a personal or global level. It can inspire a person or the masses. It can add to the skills of the craft, expand the body of art and, at times, become ageless classics that we’re compelled to read.

There is a rare condition called Aphantasia, which is the inability to visualize a picture in one’s mind’s eye. Sometimes, as authors, we take for granted that the reader will fill in the blanks if we lead them to the relative idea. Yet, the point is, as writers we should write well enough that even people with Aphantasia can “see” it. Right?

We should write clear, concise, compelling stories, with scenes that can be visualized, and emotions that transcend the page into the reader’s heart. We should use a wide brush of literary devices and the fine brush of our unique inspiration.

Some people write with templates. Some copy those who came before. Some write an outline of the story. Some use AI to prompt or fill in blanks. Some struggle with writer’s block. I’m one of the lucky ones, writing comes easy.

In any case, if you want to write, do it. Keep running at it until you find traction, whatever that means for you. Entertain the world, one reader at a time.
